What is a trial separation?
This entry describes a trial separation as a named period of living apart, or of living as if apart, used to see whether the marriage can be chosen again. It notes that the trial needs a length, a contact rule, and a date to talk, and that without those it is only one person leaving.
What this entry does not do
It does not replace the entry on divorce and separation, and it is not a legal cooling-off period.
