What is the silent treatment?
This entry describes the silent treatment as withholding speech, warmth, or ordinary replies in order to punish a partner or force a concession. It separates that use of silence from a requested pause, and from a shutdown under emotional flood that is not chosen as a penalty.
What this entry does not do
It does not score one silent hour as abuse, and it does not teach a partner to break the silence by giving in.
